Green Apple and Turkey Sausage Biscuits - Rolled Cookies
Ingredients:
4 teaspoons virgin olive oil
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 pound sweet Italian turkey sausage
2 cups unbleached flour
2 cups rolled oats
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 green apple, coarsely chopped
1 cup organic free-range chicken broth
1.) In a small skillet saute the garlic in the olive oil over low heat. Remove sausage casing and add to the garlic. Break sausage apart into little crumbs. Cook until the sausage bits are browned and almost crunchy.
2.) Preheat oven to 325o F.
3.) Measure all of the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir until combined.
4.) Place the garlic, sausage and oil into a glass measuring cup. Add the chopped apple. Pour the chicken broth into the skillet and stir in the browned bits. Pour the chicken broth mixture into the apple sausage and stir until combined.
5.) Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour the wet ingredients in. Mix on medium speed until all ingredients are combined.
6.) Turn the dough out on to a lightly floured surface and knead until the dough is soft. Roll the dough 1/4 inch thick and cut the biscuits into your desired shapes.
7.) Place the biscuits on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are dry and firm to the touch.
8.) Turn the oven off and leave the biscuits in for another 20-30 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool them on a baking rack. Store biscuits in an airtight container.
